Set up your round

One phone, private words, no sign-up.

All game data stays in this browser tab. Refreshing the page clears the round.

How to play

  1. Enter the players' names, choose a category, and deal the secret words.
  2. Pass the phone around. Each person reveals and memorizes only their own word.
  3. Take turns giving one clue without saying the word itself.
  4. Discuss, then vote for the player you think has the different word.
  5. Reveal the answer. The group wins if it catches the impostor; the impostor can steal the win by correctly naming the group's word.

Why the words are similar

Each round uses a deliberately related pair, such as โ€œcoffeeโ€ and โ€œtea.โ€ The impostor can participate instead of guessing blindly, while differences in the clues create the mystery. Give a clue that proves you know your word without making the shared answer obvious.

Quick rules for a fair round

  • Do not repeat another player's clue.
  • Do not use the word itself, spelling, rhymes, or translations.
  • Let every player speak once before open discussion.
  • If the vote ties, give each tied player one final clue and vote again.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can play?

The tool supports 3 to 16 players. One impostor works well for 3โ€“7 players; larger groups can use two or three.

Does the impostor get no word?

The impostor gets a related but different word. That gives them enough context to bluff while careful clues can still expose the difference.

Do we need to download an app?

No. The whole game runs in one browser tab, and no account is required.
