Getting Started

Your first click is always a leap of faith, so make it somewhere in the middle — openings near the center tend to cascade into large cleared areas, giving you real numbers to work with. Corners and edges give fewer clues.

Once you have numbers showing, start with the certainties. If a square shows 1 and it touches exactly one unopened cell, that cell is a bomb — flag it. If all of a number's bombs are already flagged, every other cell around it is guaranteed safe. This simple "subtract the flags" habit solves most of an easy board by itself.

Advanced Tips

• Chord When You Can — When a number's flags are all placed, opening its remaining neighbors in one go saves moves and time
• Learn the Classic Patterns — A 1-2-1 along an edge and a 1-2-2-1 sequence both encode fixed bomb positions; recognizing them instantly is the biggest speed upgrade
• Work From Solved Areas Outward — Expand from regions you're sure about instead of poking isolated cells
• Count Globally on Endgames — When few bombs remain, use the total bomb counter to deduce where the last ones must be
• Guess Smart — Forced to guess? Pick the cell whose outcome gives the most new information, not just the safest-looking one

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Flag-Hoarding — Flags are a tool, not a score; refusing to open obviously safe squares wastes moves
• Ignoring the Bomb Counter — The remaining-bomb display is a powerful clue, especially late in the game
• Misreading Diagonals — Numbers count all eight neighbors, corners included; most "impossible" boards are misreads
• Rushing the Opening — Blitzing random cells early just restarts the game repeatedly
• Forgetting Flag Removal — A wrong flag left standing blocks chording and misleads your counting
